My 3 weeks working at Artspace have come to a relatively painless end. The show itself opens This Friday August 3rd, and remains on view through September 21, with a closing destruction party on the 22.This week I return temporarily to the art handler/preparator pool at the NCMA, before taking off to complete a commission for the Cairns Festival in North Queensland Australia. When I return from Australia I’ve got about two weeks to turn around and head out to Fresno for my final install of the 2012 season at CSU Fresno.
As if the chance to participate in a residency experience and sleep in my own bed weren’t novel enough, this residency is happening one mile from my last installation, which closed today.
I think today is some sort of midpoint of productivity in my residency. I have about one uninterrupted week left before I begin teaching a print class for middle schoolers, about two weeks before I go back to work as an art handler at the museum, and three weeks before i head to Australia to build at the Cairns festival. I guess it’s time to see the finish line on Artspace.
It’s the Middle of the second week of my 4 weeks at Artspace, and “To Weave. To Stack. To Stain” is moving at a manageable clip. I was able to get the lid wall corners laid in after several days of satin pin hammering. Also I now have the pattern for the coffee grounds laid in on the brick walls, and the first sets of sleeves, the ones from the Conway show in January, restacked and in place.
I moved in. I drew some circles. I started most of the elements that will comprise the finished installation “To Weave. To Stack. To Stain” that opens August 3rd. From now until then I’ll just be plugging away on the following elements;
