    October 17, 2007-March 15, 2008

    Sumter, SC

The Sumter Piece, 60,000 coffee stir sticks woven in place and held by tension, was executed in October of 2007 as part of the Accessibility Artist in Residence Program in Sumter South Carolina. For 14 days I wove a structure which moved from a second floor balcony through a rotunda around a chandelier and to the first floor. No adhesive was used and the entire structure holds itself in place because of the tensile strength of 7” rounded end wooden coffee stirrers. After nearly six months the piece eventually separated and the materials were donated to a local school.
