    The Norman Piece, 2009

60,000 wooden coffee stir sticks woven in place and held by tension, On view Aug 28-Sept 25 at The Lightwell Gallery at The University of Oklahoma at Norman. The piece was created during the course of a ten day residency as part of the Lightwell Projects visiting artist program, for more info on Lightwell projects visit www.ou.edu/lightwellgallery/projects.html

With The Norman Piece I tried as much as possible to extend the discoveries I made while working on the city gallery piece. I again explored the use of guide wires as a way to draw out the dimensions of the piece, then wove the sticks into the defining form. In an attempt to move beyond the previously closed forms created in both the city gallery piece and the dam stuhltrager piece I literally created a divided piece as if the city gallery piece were being split in half across the space. As with all the work in this cycle all decisions and work is done entirely in situ.
