Campaign of Good Fortune is a series of human scale fortune cookie fortunes, printed yard signs, and custom printed fortune cookies. These fortunes are arranged to create a series of encounters in the grassy areas in front of the Kendall College Federal building, The Grand Rapids Public Museum, and at various sites throughout town. These arrangements were intended to redefine the space allowing the viewer to walk around and experience fortune cookie fortunes in a new context. The large-scale fortunes provide a moment of respite and reflection in Grand Rapids during the Artprize festival. Each fortune was chosen from the artist’s extensive collection of fortune cookie fortunes. The selected fortunes, while seeming random and cryptic, provide the citizens of Grand Rapids a point from which to contemplate their own personal good fortune, the creative process in general, and a working artists process more specifically. The hope is to provide the audience with the same experience that one feels upon removing the fortune from a cookie at the end of a meal but without all the interim steps.
