One of my favorite times in my creative and work cycle is the in between times. Right now is one of those moments. I just returned from Grand Rapids on Thursday September 22. I just went to Greenville South Carolina on Friday September 30th, then I came to Charleston yesterday. Today I did a site visit for a really exciting, big, new permanent outdoor commission. So big that we will be budgeting for the temporary rental of a bigger shop space later on in the process. For now I need to generate more definitive plans and drawings, but it will be finished and installed by the middle of 2012 depending on final design approval of course. Friday I will be in Rock Hill for the evening to talk to a class about my working process, then I will be back in the studio prepping for “Stick, Stack, Show”. I depart for Richmond on or around October 18 where I will be working up until the opening on November 4th. I like these moments because they sharpen my eye to things around me that serve as sources and inspirations for other work that is still in development. I think I cling to my camera and sketchbook the most during these times.
