While working today I gave some thought to what it means to be making work in the Seattle Center. I thought a bit about it’s history as a worlds fair site and the tremendous spectacle that was involved in that. I really warmed up to the idea of doing my artistic magic trick in the place that was built to show the best ideas of the future, including the monorail I have been riding back to the hotel each night. Also the more the other visual arts shows begin to take shape the more I feel we are all doing our part to reflect the spirit and context of the Seattle Center in an interesting way. The other shows include a survey of Seattle underground comic art, a large scale multi-artist grafitti installation, a group show of audio sculpture including the marimba palying robot and a community portrait challenge project. I am really looking forward to the press preview on Tuesday so I too can get a chance to walk around and see what everyone else has done for Bumbershoot.
