I think I slept the deepest sleep possible after last nights opening. Although I didn’t snap any pics of people running around the gallery, or the amazing hands on display that was rocked by hordes of kids, I do have a few of groups coming through before the opening.
This last group were a batch of sophomore sculpture majors at VCU. It was really interesting to field their questions the same day as the group of young kids that came through. On some level both groups ask the same types of questions, which is really encouraging for me. I lose track often times of how the work resonates with multiple audiences. By having 12 year olds and sophomores ask questions about my motivations, my planning, and how the work is made really helps to keep me thinking about where the work is leading me next.
Here is a quick pic from one of two print workshops I ran. The workshops were based around using found objects in combination with an etching press to create imagery and both unique and editionable works on paper. It could not have been more timely for me since in a couple of weeks I will be pulling some more prints of my own at Columbia College in preparation for the show there in the Spring.
