Starting to find a resolution to the coffee cup sleeve line. On some level it has been the most difficult part of this since I am trying to make it do new things the sleeves have never done for me before. I hope tomorrow to get them knocked out and finished.
As a special treat yesterday I was joined at some point in the day by a series of drawing classes who were tasked with using the grand rapids piece as a still life subject. I think the hardest part for them was enduring my kqed background soundtrack, pledge drive requests and all. Tomorrow afternoon I should be hopping into the print studio and working on some new editions. I am always excited when collaborating with new printmakers when I travel around. Not only does the zeitgeist of a given print studio influence the choice of print medium, but the spirit of the printmaker tends to influence the decisions as well. This is one of the reasons I enjoy the printmaking culture, most all the prints are a collaboration of sorts, between the printer, the press, and the artist. I enjoy being the artist just as much as I do assisting others in realizing their work. By saturday I hope to do some normal stuff and see some sculpture that isn’t mine at the meijer garden sculpture park, and then return to the gallery refreshed on sunday for final lighting and documentation of the show. The best times are the downhill times.
