The inclusion of the Herman Miller Bench is nearly complete. Soon it will be tucked away safely inside the Grand Rapids piece for the duration of Artprize.
With Today’s progress I am finally starting to get the play of interior and exterior experiences of the piece that I have been chasing since arrival. When approached from the street it is a very different feeling then when it is experienced from the gallery entrance and it will be very different once you commit to entering the gallery. There is something very generous in scale, yet accessible in experience to the Kendall Gallery. Especially with the street front window. It makes the cube more of a three walled fishbowl. As well this gallery has dispensed with standard white walls in favor of a cool blue gray which pairs beautifully with the bamboo flooring which in turn harmonizes nicely with my palette of materials. There is something in there I suppose about how the contemporary coffee shop has a very gallery aesthetic, but I am too wiped to focus on that.
