Today was a day no sleeves would die. I managed to start inserting and laying up what will be the stacked sleeve line for this show. For a while now I have been meaning to do a piece where the sleeves interact with the sticks. This show finally gives me enough setup time and space to pull this off. Plus I was able to pre-stack sets of sleeves, and brought with me sleeves that were stacked but never used for the Two Rooms installation back in January. Additionally since I want to try and make a bigger sleeve sculpture looping over a wall in Virginia next month, and an entire stacked sleeve installation at Columbia College in the Spring I figured no time like the present to field test them just a little bit more.
Day five had a mix of positions needed to realize the piece. Above is my classic too high in the air to sit on the ground, too low to sit in a chair, but just right to sit on a box, weaving position. and Below is my just barely reachable when leaning in but struggling to keep my balance while running on 6hours sleep weaving position.
With 8 work days remaining, I am hopeful that I can find some time to work out some prints Grand Rapids style. Even though it was not part of the original plan for this visit, they do have a larger bed etching press that would be perfect for making some bigger relief prints to include in this show or my show of works on paper opening the end of this month in Greenville. Come to think of it I need to work on that show when I get back next week. come to think of it again I need to go to sleep.
