It’s been a quick week but today I was able to round up and finish the cairns piece. I ended up getting to use my banding trick, which I have been wanting to try but needed the right circumstance. The basketry image I was chasing for this one seemed suited to utilizing this banding weave. I’ve been saying for the past couple big shows that I would just like to make a simple object stuck in a space and with this show I’ve gotten to do that. Now I have some juice as I move forward to Fresno and can integrate the weaving from this with the suspended sleeve tensioning from the previous shows this year.
Even I get “snow blind” working on these and the strapping helped give me a guideline to follow while laying in the banding.
The handle found it’s way to a nice natural shape as if the “basket” is in mid sling in someone’s hand.
